The Abel Tasman National Park is located on the South Island of New Zealand. It covers about 22,530 hectares. If you are planning to spend a lot of time in this park then you will want to either camp out in the park or arrange for lodging in nearby Kaiteriteri, Motueka or Takaka. If you do decide to camp out you will need to be prepared. You will need a good sleeping bag, high-energy food, warm clothing, cooking equipment, water and a portable stove.

It is not a good idea to drink the water found inside the park because traces of Giardia has been identified in the park's water sources.

Transportation to and from the park is facilitated by roads that are located on both ends of the Coastal Track. You can drive to this park, but if you prefer not to there are buses that visit this park in frequent intervals.

There is a lot to do in Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand. If you are looking for a hiking destination this is the place to go. Here you will find two fabulous trail systems, the Abel Tasman Inland Track and the Abel Tasman Coast Track. The Inland Track will provide you with a forest experience that can not be matched anywhere in the world. You will see amazing granite outcroppings, bellbirds, Tui and other New Zealand wildlife. The Coast Track is a great trail to explore if you have time on your side. To explore the complete Coast Track you will need between 3 and 5 days. This trail system will taking you to some of the best beaches in the country as well as provide you with amazing coastal views.

For water sports fans you will find plenty of opportunities to get wet in Abel Tasman National Park in New Zealand. Sea kayaking is one of the most popular water sports in the park. Sailing and boating are also popular. To find opportunities to get into the water look for sheltered coves or sign up for a guided sea kayaking tour.
